So, I want to tell you about the exciting package I received yesterday, courtesy of Angie of Angie's Appetite for Life. Thanks Ang!
The box included a new jar of TJ's almond butter, which I'm nearly completely out of, so I was overjoyed to recieve, a jar of pumpkin butter, which is brand spankin new to me, and a jar of brushetta, also new to me. How exciting is that?!
I immediately had to try the pumpkin butter.
Delish! Very sweet, though. A little goes a long way. I used it on my toast last night and it was amazing. You really must try such things with a spoon first. Ryan wrinkled his nose when I did it, but seriously, it's like a rule.
The bruschetta is a "mixture of zucchini, eggplant, peppers, tomatoes and olive oil." Sounds like a fantastic topping for fish. But, I'm not sure what it's "supposed" to be used for. Just bread?... Somebody educate me!
This morning, I started off with a bowl of cereal and a banana.
This was a major mistake. I knew in the back of my mind that I should have a glass of milk with it or something protein-related, but I was busy. So, about a half an hour later, I was sweating and shaking, which is what you do if you're bariatric. It's like a sugar crash. I do this like once a year, so it's not often. Yep, my body was really unhappy with me. So, I had a piece of toast w/peanut butter. Better. I had another piece of toast with peanut butter. Unnecessary, but delicious. And, I've been starving ever since. Sigh. I knew better. Really, I did.
For lunch, I made another oven-baked wrap. Warning. This is a concoction.
Red Pepper-Pumpkin Tuna Melt Wrap
I used a can of tuna in water, drained.
Mixed in about a tablespoon of red pepper hummus.
And a bit of my new pumpkin butter.
I layered it on a tortilla (didn't use the whole mixture) and sprinkle a bit of cheese and some spinach.
Then, the wrap. Don't forget the envelope fold.
Tada!!! It was yum. When I talked to hubby on the phone at lunch (we do that everyday), he wrinkled his nose - I could tell. But, it was good. I swear!!!
I also had the random apple today.
Oh, and speaking of randomness. Check my cute shorts I found on the clearance rack at Walmart. $5!!! I really love a bargain. Get this. They're a size 13. I held them up to my size 8 capris from Old Navy and they are exactly the same size. Is that dumb or what? That should tell you a thing or two about the importance of numbers. They mean NOTHING.
So, on the docket tonight is a workout w/the hubby and chillin. My kinda friday night. Not sure if I'll post tonight or in the morning. We'll see.
Have a wonderful Friday night!
xoxo

We're taking suggestions for next week's Hubby in the Kitchen. Any recommendations for a hubby-friendly dinner to cook? "Hubby-friendly" criteria means simple ingredients, 30 minutes or less and ease of clean up is a plus. Send your thoughts our way!

I think sizes are totally skewed these days anyway. I swear that the "Size 4" of today is the "Size 8" of 1990's. I have no doubt that clothing manufactures have messed with the numbers to sell more clothes.
ReplyDeleteMy point is that you're totally right. The number means nothing, except of course that "$5" number, what a find! WOOT!
ooh I have a suggestion! You should get the whole-wheat refrigerated pizza dough from Trader Joe's, roll it out, put TJ's pizza sauce, low-fat mozzarella, and add cooked, sliced chicken or turkey sausage! Delicious! (or you can even try Trader Joe's tofu italian sausage -- it's amazing!)
ReplyDeleteYour shorts look adorable!
I am jealous of your loot from Angie!!
ReplyDeletei love putting that pumpkin butter in my oats - you're right - you just need a smidge!
ReplyDeleteI hate sizing today... like you said, it doesn't really mean anything! And I find to eating disordered people, it can be especially triggering.
ReplyDeleteOhhh yea, you won Angela's giveaway!!! I almost forgot...how awesome! I'm going to hunt for that pumpkin butter big time!
ReplyDeleteYour wraps looked really yummy, and I love your shorts...green is my favorite color ;)
Let's see, what's an easy hubby dinner....hmmm....men love to grill..so how about grilled turkey burgers, grilled corn on the cob, and baked sweet potato fries on the side and then for dessert, grilled slices of pineapple, mangos, and peaches with a dollup of whipped cream and a drizzle of agave nectar over top...sounds good!
I agree about sizes. They are all random. What used to be a medium is now XS and companies will continue to work that way.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your gift package. I would put the bruschetta on toast or couscous with some roasted veggies. Yum!
DAMN! WE HAVE NO TJs here in H-TOWN! DAYUM! My mom is going to san fran next week and I told her to pack an extra bag so she can bring some goodies back from TJs.
ReplyDeleteYour wrap, although concocted looked kinda good actually.
Your hubby could make kabobs with different fruit, veggies and meat.
So, I'm going to need some lessons on evelope wrapping. I am a HORRIBLE "wrapper"! The tuna/ pumpkin butter combo is definetly new and interesting. How inventive! Oh, and yes normally the bruschetta goes on toasted ciabatta bread. But, obviously you're creative in kitchen...so, I am eager to see how you incorporate it in your eats! :)
ReplyDeleteSizes are so crazy. All my clothes fit me, but vary so much in 'size'...even from the same store. I think they just throw random labels on whatever they feel like!
ReplyDeleteHmmm... I vote the husband cooks salmon baked with bruschetta topping and couscous :)
What a cool blog you have here! I followed you from the foodieblogroll and I'd love to guide our readers to your site if you won't mind.Just add your choice of foodista widget to this post and it's all set to go, Thanks!
ReplyDeletefor your hubby dinner, check out my dinner gnocchi recipe from this post:
ReplyDeletehttp://actorsdiet.blogspot.com/2009/06/lynn-pre-and-post-hangover.html
it requires mostly frozen foods....and it's so darn good!!! he doesn't have to use the fake chicken, obviously...
I would use that brushetta mixed with some feta on top of greens for a yummy salad!
ReplyDeleteI'll have to think for hubby meals....I usually have my man grill - nice and easy and no clean up :)
Hecka cute shorts!!! So glad your wrap turned out. I am a savory, sweet eater and it sounds good to me. Subbing the tuna for chickpeas of course. :o) xoxo back at ya
