Oikos Yogurt Review Part 1

How 'bout that Oikos review? (Finally.)

Kristina over at Stonyfield was kind enough to send me vouchers for free Oikos, and I was all too thrilled to partake.

Unfortunately, I've only been able to find three flavors: plain, vanilla and honey at my local grocers. No worries. I'll venture out eventually and grab up the other two (blueberry and the newest flavor - strawberry) for a Oikos Part Deux at a later date.

From the
Oikos website:
Oikos Organic Greek Yogurt has 0% fat, just 90 calories per 5.3 oz.-serving*, twice the protein of regular yogurt, and fewer carbohydrates. Because it’s organic, our yogurt is also better for the earth. And we think it’s better for you, too.

*5.3 oz plain

Oikos Plain Greek Yogurt

I like to use plain greek yogurt in savory dishes. It works exactly like sour cream with no "diet" exchange taste. You'll remember this dish from last week's Hubby in the Kitchen.

It was excellent. This was the first time we've used Oikos plain greek yogurt in a casserole. It was perfect for a lighter Tuna Casserole, and with only 90 calories, it beats Sour Cream any day.

Oikos Vanilla Greek Yogurt

I took a hint from fellow bloggers and combined the vanilla with a bowl of crunchy cereal and fresh fruit. The texture of Oikos is a little better than the Trader Joe's brand I'm used to buying, and it worked well mixed with fruit and cereal. I don't think I'd eat this vanilla flavor on its own, though. It was a tad too tart for my tastes.

Oikos Honey Greek Yogurt

I am a long-time fan of the honey flavor. It's by far and away my very favorite yogurt EVER, and was of course my basis for excitement when Stonyfield contacted me. The honey flavor is the only one of the three that I could eat without any mix-ins. However, it's FANTASTIC mixed with clementine pieces. Above, you see I had it as an afternoon snack with a few rainier cherries. Delish! I highly recommend trying this flavor if you're new to greek yogurt.

Thanks Stonyfield!

Class today was nice. In a strange way, working out had the same effect on me as if I had taken a nap. I actually feel more rested. I know that's strange, and it actually probably indicates a more advanced stage of my delirium...

It was handy for me to hear all the other people suffering from the heat w/out air. It reminded me that I'm lucky to be where I am and I just need to suck it up. :) Sucking it up as we speak!

When I got home from class, I was hungry, so I had a quick sandwich (unpictured) and hopped in the shower. Dinner, however, was Buffalo Chicken. I didn't eat it, but I did picture Ryan's plate before he set to work on it.

I mixed some bottled buffalo sauce with a little yellow mustard and crushed black pepper and marinated the chicken tenders overnight. Served with a side of fresh sugar snaps and a baked potato. He said it was gooooood and he ate it all, so I'll take his word on it. I'll have something later, which you'll have to wait on bated breath to see tomorrow (I know... can you handle it?).

For now, I need to go study for my upcoming exam on Wednesday. Hubby has been quizzing me randomly for the last 2-3 days. What does HDL stand for? What about HSL? What is set point theory? on and on... lol. He's quite handy to have around.

Anywho, have a fantastic night!!!

I Heart Cherry Pie Larabars

Oh my word! Look what I found at my grocery store today!

[Insert Dance of Glee Here!]

For my afternoon snack, I had to have one: cherry pie. OMG, it was heaven. Seriously, it was like eating dessert. Do you know what my favorite part about it was?

Ingredients: Dates, Almonds, Unsweetened Cherries

Awesome! It has the very distinct taste of cherry pie. Not sure how they do this w/out added sugar, but its fantastic and clean tasting. It's also filling, despite the fact these bars are small. I was a little leery of them as they seemed like unneccessary calories, but they are well worth it due to taste factor alone.

Tonight is a really nice, mild night. The heat of the day burned off early and I've really enjoyed the breeze coming through the windows. I finally finished my book and will be moving on to the next. That's always an exciting prospect to me! :)

We spent the day after our run just hanging out and chillin. I went to the grocery store, but that's it. The roommate's kids were here today (they're like our extended family lol), so that always makes for a little more exciting household. I took some pictures of D playing around. No pictures of A today. My favorite picture of D was of him watching billards on tv. He actually clapped when they did well. It was hilarious. What 3 year old watches billards? YAWN!

Well, it must have worn him out because he literally passed out on hubby's lap. (He's not playing here. He's actually knocked out cold.)

Tonight, Ryan went over to hang out with his friends, who were having game night. As always, I begged out. I'm ridiciulously sore, yes, but I'm also a major homebody. Especially on a Sunday night, ya know?

Supper was easy. I've kinda had an issue with binge/grazing today, so I needed to go light.

Vanilla Greek Yogurt w/Blackberries and a new Total Blueberry-Pomegranate Cereal, with four broiled tomatoes with a small piece of pepperjack on each. Interesting dinner, I know. It did the job, though.

Ok, so I'm going to go figure out what book is next on my agenda (not that I actually have an agenda... I'm so not that organized.). Haven't even ordered this month's book club book. If its a book I really think I'll enjoy, I buy it at the bookstore. If it looks kinda sucky (like this month's pick), then I go the Amazon route. I'm not spending my hard-earned cash on a book I don't even think I'll like!!!
