Blog Check-in!

Hey all!

I'm alive, I promise. Have you missed me?

I know I haven't been around, but I'm working on transferring this entire blog over to wordpress with alot of changes along the way. That, of course is just the tip of the iceberg.

I'm also working on finishing the fourth chapter in my book. The first four will be going to my agent soon, so I'm overwhelmed. Plus, all my freelance stuff - ya know, just the little things that pay the bills! :p

Plus! My mom visited for 8 days!!!

Here are a few quick pics. I'll do a way big post on my new and improved site very soon.

Ways Not to Lose Your Mind

You might think this blog will be me telling you ways to deal with stress when in fact you are completely wrong. I'm hoping you can tell me, because I'm going insane.

Let me tell you why.

My mom is coming next week.

Dad's not coming.

And, I'm working like CRAZY to get all my work done before she gets here. Which means basically double-time.

Additionally, Ryan and I have added P90X to our life. So, in addition to running four times per week, we have an additional 6+ hours of P90X. This means that for more than six hours a week, our living room becomes a deluxe torture chamber...

complete with whips...

(Resistance bands.)

Uncomfortable sleeping quarters...

and an evil man who scream at us to do things our bodies can't handle.

The added benefit is that I now fit into these:

My fat jeans. Yes, my fat jeans were getting tight. :(

The unfortunate consequence of adding all that workout time to my life is that my house has become utter chaos between work and workouts.

If you know me, you know this is HIGHLY messy for me. Ugh.

I'm also now wearing braces on both wrists, so that has slowed me down a bit too. Boooo.

Good news though!!! After three months of waiting, we finally got our new couch.

Love it! Love it! Love it!

Oh, and I've been eating, but not nearly as much. I've mostly been making things in bulk. Like this:

Garlic-Chicken Spaghetti w/Orange Peppers

and

Polenta - one of the most amazing foods ever

I swear I've been eating more than polenta and spaghetti, but seriously life is fast right now. I'm also working on giving Eat Move Write a new home. Very, very soon it will go on to greener pastures from Blogspot. Very soon, my friends. Very soon.

Oh! Guess what? Speaking of traveling, do you guys watch Man Vs. Food? You know, that show were the guy eats gargantuan amounts of semi-nasty, greasy food just to say he did it. :) Well, he came to San Diego! The episode airs tomorrow. Here's some info:

About the Show

Adam Richman, a food fanatic with a serious appetite, travels around the country taking on the most legendary food challenges. Adam has held every job in the food business and is now on a journey to explore the best eats our country has to offer. Whether it's a fourteen pound mountain pie, or an eight-patty burger, Adam is ready for the challenge.

San Diego Episode - Wednesday, June 16 at 9:00 E/P

Next Wednesday, Adam will experience the best taco in San Diego at Licha Libre and a burrito full of... french fries? After that, Adam visits Phil's BBQ and tastes a tri-tip signature sauce that changes flavor as he eats. At his final stop, Adam will be taking on the Broken Yolk Iron Man Challenge at the Broken Yolk Cafe. In this challenge, Adam will attempt to take down a twelve egg omelette that is smothered in chili and a pound of melted cheese. This omelette is served with a side of two biscuits and nearly two pounds of hash browns. In one hour, Adam will have to achieve what 96% of people have failed: finish everything on his plate. Can Adam finish it?

Want to know more about Adam's ultimate hunger quest or how he attempts to conquer the unbelievable legendary Broken Yolk Iron Man Challenge? Be sure to watch the season premiere episode (followed by another all-new episode in Boulder) on Wednesday, June 16, at 9:00 E/P. I'm an Aunt! Welcome Baby Braedan!

Meet Braedan Carpenter Flagg, born at 2:43am (EST). He was 6lbs, 12oz, and 20.5 inches long. My little brother is a father. It's crazy to me!!!

This is my first time being an aunt, and it's surreal. I never expected that my little brother (almost 7 years younger) would have babies before me. Life is wacky!

Today has been insanely busy. I hope life is great for you.

What was it like for you to become an aunt or uncle? Weird? Wonderful? Awesome?

Toodles,

Updated Pics of the New Place. and An Unexpected Deluge of Family Stuff

Hi guys!

I know, I know. Two posts in like two hours?!? How obnoxious! How do you stand me? :p

I went around and took some updated pics of our new place.

My new office.

I'm thinking about putting up my shelves on the wall to the left of the window. I want a de-cluttered office, so I'm keeping my office supplies in the hall closet, which is huge!

There's even more storage up top. Oh Storage, how I love thee.

There's a bath right next to the office, which is "mine." Ryan is using the master, which is in our bedroom and has a shower, not tub. I wanted the tub!

Our bedroom is still pretty much a blank canvas. Did you catch what I did on the dresser? tehe...

Porn cam! :p

I'm so completely joking. I did that as a joke for when Ryan gets home. He he.

Kitchen is pretty much the same. Notice all the red!!!

The dining room is waiting on its new furniture.

Our view of Mt. Helix from the front window.

The living room currently still has our old couch in it. (Cannot wait until the new furniture gets here!) It also contains our old dining room table, which actually, looks rather cool right there in the corner. We might leave it for a game table for guests or something. I love it.

Obviously, we've still got boxes here and there, but we're getting there. This is our bookshelf. Ryan and I agreed that we shouldn't completely cram it full of books as I'm wont to do. :p I'm a writer... What can you expect?

"This is what it looks like to fall in love." This is a (dusty) drawing my friend made for us. She drew it from a picture. We were first dating at the time, and I love how you can tell that we're falling in this pic. :)

Wedding pic.

Another wedding pic and an oil painting that a reader of my blog on Obesity Help painted for us, also from a picture. Isn't it amazing?

Our wedding invitation.

Can you tell we really like to look at ourselves? :p

This is my brother's senior picture. He's a muscian, a true tortured artist. I don't think he'd mind me telling you the story behind the image. Today, he's a recovering addict, but at that time, he was a full-blown one. A few hours after this picture was taken, he drove his truck through a brick building and disfigured his face (among alot of other injuries). I got the call late, maybe 10 or 11 that night. I was studying at a coffee shop. My best friend took one look at my face and began stacking my books. She took them home with her and I drove like a mad woman to Indianapolis, where Britt had been taken by helicopter.

When we saw him, it was devastating, unbelievable, yet somehow, he was conscious. He was black from head to toe, which at first, we thought were burns. It was blood. I didn't want him or my parents to see me visibly shaken, so I went to the bathroom to throw up. They hadn't even stiched him up yet. It took everything I had not to cry. Can you imagine getting your face stitched up? In addition, he had damage to his spleen and various other organs, a broken arm, something wrong with his foot, etc. While he was in the room, his two friends that had been with him in the truck also arrived. They both had minor brain damage, though at the time we didn't know the severity. It was so scary.

Addiction is terrifying. I wish I could say that was the last time he almost died, but there were many many many more times. Many more hospital visits. Many more calls in the night. Many more moments where you look at your cell phone and see its your parents and wonder if this is the night that they tell you he's gone too far.

But, all that's to say, drug addiction and food addiction are not that much different. I nearly ate myself to death at 343 pounds. It took a doctor telling me I might only have 5 years left to live to really wake me up. The older I get, the more I realize how right Ms. Maya Angelou was when she said, "We are all more alike than unalike."

Wow. That was possibly too much, huh? How's that for a "deep" blog? Here you were thinking I only think about food, decorating, and writing. ;-)

PS. If you are just here for the daily Silly Survey post (and I can't say I blame you), go here. xoxo

Food and Family

Greetings from Indiana...

Hello my friends. Thanks for your sweet well wishes. My mom is better. Getting strength every day. She still can't do much. Yesterday was the first time she was able to leave the house since coming home from the hospital. Tomorrow, she wants to go shopping. We'll see how that goes.

Today, I started my day with oatmeal. I was running my grandparents around to a doctor appointment after that, so lunch was a clif bar and fruit. Dinner was great though.

Mom decided she wanted to cook a real meal. Pork Tenderloin Tacos with Black Beans and Fresh Sweet Corn... Fantastic!

She looks good, huh? All smiles making those tacos, though!!! There's only three because all we can get here are flour tortillas, so I passed on the tortillas part of it. My dad's plate...

My pork taco bowl.

So, she seems to be getting better. I'm managing to get some work done, and my grandparents are thrilled I'm here. I guess you could say Life is a Bowl of Cherries...

Ok, I actually have more pictures, but getting them up on blogger tonight is like Mission IMPOSSIBLE, so I'm outtie. Besides, I'm on Indiana time... It's already 9:30!!!

Night night...

There's More than Corn in Indiana (There's Also Family)

My bloggy friends...

I'm going home to Indiana for the next few days to be with my family. My moma hasn't been well, and I just need to be there. I'm not sure how much I'll be able to update, but I'll definitely take pics and update you when I get back. I'll miss you guys! Don't forget me, okay?

Today, I didn't eat much. No appetite, but I did eat a good breakfast.

Late lunch:

I also had an oatmeal-raisin Clif bar.

When Ryan got home, he informed me he was taking me to dinner. We went to a neighborhood cafe. Mom and Pop. Very good. I had 1/2 a turkey sandwich and some melon. I was ravenous and hadn't even realized it.

During dinner, we had a really good conversation about life and priorities, about who we are and who we love. It was good, and he's my hero.

So, I'll update when I can, but regardless... Have beautiful days, kiss your loved ones and, always always, eat well.

xoxo

Hubby in the Kitchen Overshadowed

Hi. We've had a weird day here.

My mom is sick and has been hospitalized twice this week. Please say good thoughts for her (and my dad, who's with her).

We did Hubby in the Kitchen, but we were alot more interested in our conversation (as I was filling him in) than the dinner itself. The plan was for him to finish his Italian Turkey Sausage and Spaghetti dinner with a beautiful spinach salad. But instead, we just ate (and snapped a couple pics).

Blurry, but clearly my unfailing hero...

Earlier stuffs:

Then, I found out my mom was in the hospital, and I might have had three of these:

These things happen. I talked to my dad tonight, and atleast for tonight everyone is resting and tomorrow is, of course, a new day.

In the crazy way life works, I got some really fun/interesting news today writing-career-wise for me.
I actually called my parents to tell them and they were rushing Mom to the hospital. So, for now, I'll keep it secret, but lets just say it combines writing and fitness (oh, and also extra income, which is always nice).

Everyone have a beautiful night. Kiss the ones you love.

xoxo
