Hubby in the Kitchen: Sausage & Pepper Supreme

Guess who's back?!?

Yes, tonight, Ryan resurrected Hubby in the Kitchen. He made his signature dish, Sausage & Pepper Supreme. You see, this is the dish he has made to impress most girls in his life. Unfortunately for him, I'm not most girls.

When he said he was going to cook for me the first time way back when (this was February 2007), I thought it was soooooo sweet. Then, I spotted these sausages, and I nearly went into convulsions. I texted my best friend, "OMG WEINER SAUSAGES!!!"

At the time, I was mostly a vegetarian. Not on purpose, but just because I don't really love meat. I swear to you I broke out in a sweat when I realized he was going to be cooking these for dinner. But I liked him SO MUCH that I ate them. They were... okay.

However, now he knows how I am, so he also made me a side of tofu. :D

So, basically this meal consists of sausage, peppers, tomatoes, and onions (I pick out the onions)...

He made his own sauce using fresh tomatoes, tomato paste and water. It was fantastic!

Served over (brown) rice or pasta. He used rice tonight.

Today was a full-time work day. I worked AT LEAST 8 hours, plus I went to the grocery store. When I say I went to the grocery store that actually means I went to three grocery stores. One for produce, one for cheap yogurt and other assorted finds, and another for everything I can't get at those two places. It takes atleast 2 hours and that's hurrying.

So, I knew it would be a busy day, which is exactly why I started my day with Reeses Cup Oatmeal.

Actually, it's just oats made with water, 1/2 cup chocolate soy, and a dollop of creamy peanut butter. Not quite a Reeses Cup, but close.

For lunch, Ry Bread (as my mom calls him) and I split an organic veggie/cheese pizza and had (unpictured) salads.

Here's the pizza:

Oh, and while running errands, I hit up CVS to pick up a brace for my wrist. I think I'm developing carpal tunnel or arthritis. One of the two. It's become excrutiating to type. I'm 27 years old. I'm going to pretend like that doesn't make me want to throw myself on a chaise lounge in despair, because honestly I don't have the words for it right now. :(

How was your weekend?

Hubby in the Kitchen: Chicken & Mushrooms Spaghetti

The return of Hubby in the Kitchen...

That's right! He's back.

While he cooked dinner, I clipped coupons. I love coupons. What's better than saving money? Anything? Seriously, someone tell me.

I had some light chocolate Silk while waiting for dinner.

Ryan's Chicken & Mushrooms Spaghetti

-1/2 pound chicken, cut up in pieces
-1 green bell pepper
-1 box of chopped fresh mushrooms (we bought them cleaned and pre-sliced)
-Slices Onions (vile vegetables - I had to pick them out of my bowl)
-1 can pasta sauce
-1 small can diced tomatoes (ours were spicy w/lime)
-1 box whole grain spaghetti

Cook the chicken. In the same skillet, add in your veggies. Saute until tender. Add in sauce and tomatoes. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat. Add in pasta or serve over pasta. Done!

It was a great Hubby in the Kitchen. Hopefully this will become a regular affair again, especially now that I'm back in school.

Speaking of school, I wanted to tell you guys something funny that happened tonight.

So, I'm sitting in my chemistry class, which I REALLY hate. I'm sitting there watching the clock and thinking, "How does all this math crap at all relate to nutrition? When will I ever use this?"

At that exact moment, my teacher says, "I'm going to put an example on the board, and I want you guys to do it on your own."

The example started like this:

The recommended amount of sodium in the diet is 2400 mg per day...

I'll spare you the rest of the problem, but how's that for ironic? he he... That's what I get for questioning the educational system. Sigh...

Suggest a dish you'd like to see my hubby cook next week.

Good Evening from the Fairy Tale Bloggery

Serving only the highest quality blog posts since 2008...

Oh my foodness... This.day.was.busy.

All of my companies have projects going at the same time. Good ($$$) for me, and bad (scream!) for me. Love my job, right? So, no complaints.

Most of the reason I was out-of-my-mind stressed today was because it was also my first day of classes. I was rushing like a mad chicken to get done by 5pm today because I had my first Inorganic Chemistry class at 5:30. I made it by the skin of my teeth.

So, anyway, on to more pressing matters (food)...

Today, I tried my first slice of Darzinsky Darnisky Darnizsky (that word is way too difficult) Bread.

I had it for my afternoon snacky, smeared with crunchy PB. According to the label, this bread is made without sugar and oil. It basically tastes like slightly softer Ezekiel. I can't say I love the texture. (I'm not a big fan of Ezekiel bread, just the muffins.) I'm not sure I'll buy this again, but it was an interesting thing to try.

I really loved the name of the bakery, though.

:)

Anywho, I'm getting ahead of myself as usual.

For lunchie, I had leftover Five-Alarm Vegetable Curry. However, this time I was armed with a cooling agent.

I used like two more dollops after this one. That stuff is hot!!!

I had a couple teeny tiny clementines along with my mouthful of fire. And, an entire canteen of water. Trust me, it was necessary.

The spoon is there because I thought I might have fruit yogurt on the side, but I ended up eating wayyyy too much plain yogurt on my curry.

So, at 5pm, I careened out the door as my hubby walked in the door. We share a car now because he totalled his back in November. Well... someone totalled it for him, but that's a long story. Anyway, we only have one car. So, we barely saw each other, as I went running out the door.

When I got home, he'd made chicken burgers and salad. Yum! Love the hubby dinner nights! He even remembered to take a few pictures. Mostly of lettuce. :D he he... He is so cute to me.

Remember these? Amazing...

The final product was fabulous. My husband is a world-class photographer AND a chef. You didn't know, did you? :D

Oh! Guess what?! We're considering re-instituting Hubby in the Kitchen on the blog... Yay!

I will probably have something small tonight still. Not sure what. That's all for the bloggy blog for tonight. I'm about to go join my husband. He's watching Superbad, and he's absolutely cackling. I love the way he can just completely lose himself in a movie. :D I gush about him to you guys, don't I? I'll say this... I was with my ex-husband for six years and it felt like a lifetime. I've now been with Ryan for three years and I still get butterflies likes it's been 3 weeks... ((grin))

Ok, that's all for the non-blog related mushiness... Forgive me. Catch you guys tomorrow.

Does your husband like to cook?

Hubby in the Kitchen: Fa-JEET-ahs

Yes, that's right. Tonight, hubby outdid himself for Hubby in the Kitchen.

He's become the resident chef for reals since I've been in school. Like the good hubby he obviously is, he's majorly picked up the slack. He cooked last night. Tonight was Hubby in the Kitchen and he's been helping me wash dishes and lots of other very wonderful things. How awesome is that?!?

Chicken Fajitas

He used lots of fresh bell peppers, which he sliced and seasoned with sea salt and black pepper.

Onions were segregated, of course, as I find them terribly disgusting.

Photobucket

He browned the chicken, next came the peppers and finally it all came together. Party in the T-fal.

Tomorrow, I have a test in Statistics, Thursday a test in Nutrition and next week a test in Biology! GAH!

I hope life is fantabulous! xoxo

Catch-Up (The Action, not the Condiment)

Hi!!!

This week has been busy, fun, hectic and wonderful. All at the same time. School and work have taken up a huge amount of my time. I will update as often as I can. I will read your blogs as often as I can. I think about what ya'll are up to even when I can't read, so don't think I forgot!

Hubby in the Kitchen was fabulous this week... Turkey Burgers w/roasted potatoes and brussel sprouts. Yes, that's a paper plate.

In addition, we had our first ever Lady Gago in the Kitchen... Lemon Pesto Pasta from Clean Eating Magazine. Fantabulous, as well. I love this trend of other people wanting to cook for me. Saves me SO much time!
