Indiana Part Deux: Bloomington

[This post is more family/vacation than food. Sorry!]

On the Friday of our trip, we headed down to Bloomington, or Btown, as us locals call it.

Bloomington is home to Indiana University, made famous by Bobby Knight and the movie, Hoosiers. I was born in Bloomington and raised in a small town 30 miles southwest of it. Don't get me wrong, I love sunny San Diego, but there's a part of my heart that will always always belong to Bloomington.

We met my parents for lunch at the Uptown Cafe, a cute little place on the "the square."

They were happy to see me. :D



After lunch, we did a little shopping and then hit up my very favorite spot in the whole wide world. Soma. It's a little coffee shop on Kirkwood, which leads up the gates of IU. There were times in my life where that little coffee joint felt like my solace from the world. I heart it big time.







I grabbed a chai latte. Afterwards, I snapped a few pics of snowy Kirkwood. Beautiful.







The next day, we went down to French Lick with my parents. French Lick is a small town in Southern Indiana that just so happens to have become a gambling mecca. There are two amazing resorts there and a casino. My parents love it.

We explored the hotel.











Then, we spent the night with my grandparents. It was a late night, with much smack talk going around, as we were playing rummy.





Our last evening was spent having dinner at my parents house. It was a quiet way to end a really busy trip.

Indiana Part 1: Indianapolis

Hey Guys!

I have to apologize. I completely dropped the ball on the blog over my vacation. Going home is madness for us, trying to see everyone. That's still no excuse. Hopefully you still love me.

I'm going to do an Indiana recap in parts.

We began our trip in Indianapolis, where Ryan was born and raised. Known affectionately as Indy, Indianapolis is the state capital of Indiana and home to the famous Indy 500.

On our first full day in the city, we met up with my girl, Charlene, for lunch.

That night, Ryan crashed with his boys, and Charlene and I stayed in our hotel. She took me to Benihana. My first experience with a hibachi. It was so much fun!!! I've obviously been missing out!

Charlene and I decided to order entrees we both liked, so we could share. We got Lemon Chicken and Tuna. Amazing.



I don't do chopsticks. Forks were invented for a reason.













We had really sweet table neighbors.



On Wednesday, Ryan and I met up with his family for a dinner at O'Charleys. We were quite the rowdy table. It was alot of fun.











The next night, we hung out with Ryan's Dad, stepmom, sister and brother. We did family pictures.

Yesterday... All My Troubles Seemed So Far Away

...because I made amazing FOOD.

Lunch was ridiculous. Why? Because I made brussels sprouts. Have you noticed that when you serve brussels sprouts they claim your plate and anything else on there is secondary?

They are always the star of the show. Mine were sprinkled with sea salt.

Oh, ya, there was a bean/cheese wrap on the side. :D

For dinner, I made one of Ryan's favorite meals. White Chicken Chili. The chicken is really the only thing white. I used kidney and black beans, corn, spinach, and soy chorizo for kick. YUM!!!

[Disclaimer: It's not your eyes. My camera is actually getting WORSE. Much discussion in the Myers residence has been had about a new camera. Funds are the challenge.]

I had a slice of bread w/AB and a small red pear on the side. Forgive me, for I have sinned. I wanted you to see my whole meal, but my camera is going down faster than the titanic. So... I committed the biggest bloggie sin of them all.

I used FLASH. :(

Sorry... Do you guys forgive me?

Well, maybe this will make up for it. Not really, but ya know... Ryan and I visited Downtown Disney on Saturday to get into the holiday spirit (disney-style). Too bad the weather decided to go wacky on us. It was 80 degrees!

After taking a picture beside the GINORMOUS Christmas tree, we continued typical Christmas fun.

...we tried on hats... Isn't that what YOU do to get into the holiday spirit???

A Day After Thanksgiving Reminder

This morning, my husband was in a terrible car wreck. It was a two-car crash. Both of them are totalled. What's worse... I stayed up late last night and slept through his calls.

He is okay. His only injury was jammed-up hands (they hit the dash).

But, it TERRIFIED me that I could sleep while something so big was affecting him. I couldn't stop crying for hours after he called me. I always had this idea that I'd just intuitively know something was wrong. Not so. I didn't know. I didn't know at all.

I have another reason to be thankful today.
