Green Cheesecake & Purple Chicken?

Hi.

I'm the complete slacker and writer of EMW, reporting in today for the first time in FIVE DAYS.

I know you all didn't authorize an impromptu vacay. I have no excuses.

I do have pictures, however.

Saturday night, we entertained some friends and I made a green cheesecake and purple chicken. Sigh... The first was on purpose. The second... not so much.

That steaming pot of yum is my usual curry. However, instead of green cabbage, I had the brilliant idea to use purple.

Note to self: Purple cabbage turns meat purple. :(

I added the tofu in later, which eventually did take on a nice purple hue. Ugh!

My guests were all smiles despite my kitchen mishap. Thankfully.

I made pistachio cheesecake for dessert. It was supposed to be green, of course.

I used a ready-made graham crust, a box of sugar-free pistachio pudding, a box of sugar-free cheesecake pudding, and 2 3/4 cup skim milk. Yum!

I am currently working on a new recipe for one of my writing gigs. I cannot wait to share it with you!

**Silly Survey**
What's the worst kitchen "mishap" you've had?
Have you had any entertaining "nightmares" (ie: embarrassing things happen when entertaining people)?
Do you experiment with recipes when you're cooking for someone new or go with old favorites?

  2. Too many kitchen mishaps to name!! Not really a whole lot of entertaining nightmares due to my cooking :) I don't try out new recipes on guests. I test them on my family first and then will serve them to guests.

  3. I once started a nice sized oil fire when I tried to deep fry some chicken. No one in the apt complex had the right fire extinguisher, so we took it out into the middle of the street and let that sucker burn.

Also, <3 pre-made graham cracker crust

  4. You have a good excuse for not bloggin - a new home! I'm sure you're super busy!

What's the worst kitchen "mishap" you've had? The first time I made banana bread, i didn't realize it would rise so much, and it overflowed from the pans and covered the bottom of the oven in a banana bread crust!

  6. once I was going to make cookies for my boyfriend at his house in his kitchen and I burned them black. I started crying; it was bad and it was the first/only time I've burned cookies like that!

  8. Worst kitchen mishap? Well, I've had a handful, most of which hidden by my living solo. However, now I have this girl that hangs around and it's harder to get by with mistakes! Luckily, most of the time I cook, it turns out and she likes it more than I do. That being said, my favorite (and repetitive) kitchen mishap is...drum roll...cayenne macing! This is where you add lots of spices (including cayenne) to a mirepoix or sometimes a cajun trinity in a really hot pan. The spices then go airborne and leave you a crying, snotting, sneezing mess. Good food is made in this manner.

  9. Worst kitchen mishap-- I don't think they count unless you do it for "company"

I invited at least 10 people over for a HUGE Thanksgiving dinner the first year we owned a home. Hours before their arrival I found it it wouldn't fit in the oven.

Then there was the time I had a male friend over & was meeting his teenagers for the first time. I had a lasagna in the oven for "awhile" & wondered why it wasn't smelling fab yet. I opened the door to check, & found out I hadn't actually lit the oven & there was this darling mouse sitting in the pan with all 4 feet in it & chowing down! Sum total: tried to kill us with gas, there was nothing to eat, I didn't even know the oven was gas AND I had a "roomate".
